Caine’s (Channing Tatum) detailed gloves and gauntlet were a challenge—they were a big part of the action of the film and featured intricate parts that were integrated into the leatherwork. The build required working closely with the film’s costume designer, Kym Barrett, as well as the atelier that produced all the hard elements—Iron Head Studios. An initial toile was necessary to assess how much real estate was available for which details, and to give a rough idea of the size of the parts which needed to be fabricated. While those parts were being made, the general glove base was built and fit to the fit model’s hand. The coordinated dance between shops resulted in a glove that achieves the desired artistic effect while fulfilling the needs of the script.
